Big Announcement…
May 24, 2011I have a big announcement. It comes with pain, and also with the hope of new things and adventures to come.
Our family has decided that we will be relocating to the Eastern Shore of Maryland (Queen Anne’s Co, Talbot & Caroline Co).
At this time I do not have a moving date set in stone, but it does look like it will be the end of June/ beginning of July.
So, what does this mean to you?
Well….. for some it means I had the utmost pleasure photographing you and your family’s magic, and I wish you the best in life. For some, it means we may meet halfway in Annapolis for fun sessions there, and I can continue to document your family. For the Eastern Shore folks…. it means Andrea Burns Photography is coming your way, and I Can’t Wait To Meet You.
I would like to thank all of my clients thus far for believing in me and helping to build my business. If you were considering a session with me, I am currently booking studio sessions on the weekends, and location session on weeknights. And there are VERY FEW spots left.

46/52 Tutu times Two…. and a giveaway!!
November 20, 2010One year ago I shot some of my favorite images of Audrey… her in her little pink tutu. A year later, I wanted a couple more tutu and pearl shots, especially with my awesome new background. I “puffy heart” this set up SO much!

Don’t you just LOVE those headbands and hair pieces?!?! I can never get enough of them. They are Banner Boutique, and you can find their HUGE selection HERE ON ETSY. You may just see a sweet someone who graces their pages of high quality stuff.
Now, let’s chat for a second. I have roughly 860 Facebook Fans on My Photography Facebook Page. I’m just dying to have 1000 fans! To help you encourage your local friends to fan my page, I’ve come up with a Contest Giveaway, to sweeten the deal!
The Winner of this Giveaway will receive… drumroll please…

$100 Gift Certificate from Andrea Burns Photography. Good towards a sitting or products.

$50 Gift Certificate to Banner Boutique’s store. For whatever little pretty thing catches your eye.

$25 Gift Certificate to Lisa Leonard’s Jewelry store. For a pretty around your neck, or even your Christmas Tree.
That’s a pretty darn good giveaway for just spreading the word about Andrea Burns Photography! Now, how can you enter the giveaway? On the Facebook page there is a “Suggest Page To Friends” link on the left side. I’d really perfer you only suggest the page to local friends and family, and by local I mean within an hour’s radius of Washington DC (it doesn’t do me too much good if your grandma’s neighbor in Texas is a fan ;) . Once you’ve suggested the page to your friends, you can come and comment on THIS BLOG POST.
Once I get those 1000 fans, I’ll take a drawing for the lucky winner!
Happy day! Go Forth and Suggest!

What to Wear… {eastern shore, md photographer}
August 4, 2010I often have clients ask me… “what should we wear?” My answer is always, “something coordinated, but not too matchy-matchy.” In an effort to help you, as a client, and as a reader, I’d like to share some tips in how to dress for your Custom Portrait Session. I’ll be using my own clothes, that I have purchased for portrait purposes to help illustrate my advice.
I often tell clients and friends to find a nice bright patterned piece of clothing and put that on one person in the group. Then you pull the colors from that pattern and dress everyone else around it. I, personally, like a blend of brights and neutrals. The following two photos represent two family-type outfits with a boy and a girl. Now, I’m also *that mom* who matches her two boys. So I have no problem with doubling up on the boy’s outfit, or possibly in your case, the girl’s outfit.
This top collection is perfect for a more natural-type setting of tall grass. The colors are what you might find in nature. The second collection is more suited for an urban-type setting. I know for a fact that there will be some All Star Converse shoes with that collection. ;)

One pattern, the colors pulled from it for everyone else. Please feel free to get funky with accessories and shoes.
The next two photos show just samples of sibling session possibilities. The first is more winter, the second more summer. The first would be great with a third child in chocolate brown. The second, I think that a third child can match and duplicate the polo or dress again.

Now I’m going to show you the above principles/ tips in practice with my own family photos from last year. One pattern, the colors pulled from it for everyone else, a blend of brights and neutrals.

Coordinated, but not too matchy-matchy.
Now where do I find these clothes? Everywhere, I shop around. But I have the best luck at Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, CrewCuts, and Anthropologie.
Hopefully this helps you. I’d love to hear if it does. :)
