The Montgomery Village Arts & Crafts Fair was this past weekend.  I submitted the above photo, a water droplets macro into the Color Photography, Pro category.  This year I brought home the Blue Ribbon of First Place!

You may remember me bringing home two Second Places last year, and a First Place the year before that.   Again, all the photography winners were non-portrait.  So I am determined to win a fine-art portrait next year…. we’ll just have to see what I can come up with.

Deb: Congrats Andrea! You totally deserve it!!

Holly: Well deserved!

Pam: Congratulations Andrea! the award is well deserved.

Kelly: Congrats!! It's a wonderful photo!

Jessy H.: Congrats! Love the color choice.

Michelle Adams: CONGRATS, Andrea!!!!!!!

Nikki: Congratulations! I love seeing all of your photos. I just love your style. I was reading a blog the other day, and I thought of you--she is a photographer as well, and I just think you are two awesome photography moms. If you have a moment, check her out, you won't be sorry (be sure to check out the "Enjoying the Small Things blog")! http://www.kellehamptonphotography.com/

We first met Simon at a baby-fresh age of 8 weeks.  Next we saw his serious side at 6 months old.  And just last week, his mama brought me the makings of a little man.  Simon still had his moments of seriousness.  But, let me tell you, he is ALL BOY.  Play, play play….

I had a hard time choosing which image to use this week.  Do I pick a photo from the Black Eyed Peas Concert I enjoyed with my husband Tuesday night?  Do I pick the rose macro with it’s abstract lines and soft beauty? I finally settled on showing this shining star…

Early in the week my husband had a rare day off, and we took the whole family to The Playseum in Bethesda.  It was a lot of fun!  It’s an indoor play space filled with rooms of different themes.  A super-market room for kids to shop, an animal room for kids to pet bunnies and birds, a construction room with a sand box, an arts and craft room, Etc.  There was even a kid’s kitchen, where my boys, had 10 minutes of treaty…. and actually worked together to make some delicious cookie dough.   They shared, they took turns, they delighted my heart.  And right after they were done, they ran off in different directions.

Kristin Rachelle: How fun!!!!!!!!!! What a great memory!

Mary Ellen: Don't they look like they are having a blast? What a great place.

Angyla: Great photo! Fun memory!

Dena Carr: I love your journaling as much as I love your pics!

phoenix wedding photographer: great pic, sounds like a great time ;)

Cristi: When I saw the first picture I thought "What an amazing classic photo" Then I saw the others and they are all amazingly great. I know that mom is over the moon! Great job.

Here are some more headshots of the gorgeous adults out in this world…  Some of the headshots I have created, were for business headshot needs, others for modeling headshot needs.

I shot a fair amount of headshots last year, but never got around to showing off some of the beautiful adults in this world.  I’m going to have to split them up into two or three posts, but I definitely wanted to share that headshots don’t have to be boring and typical.  Seeing is believing, so here are a few examples….

The baby without the best expression.

I see the first photo my 5 year old son ever took.  A fleeting moment captured by my child.  It’s a keeper.  Thank you Seth.

Debbie: Definitely a keeper! Precious!

Stephanie: This picture is flawless! He's following in his mom's footsteps for sure!!

Angyla: That photo is precious. And better than most of the snapshots I took this week!

Jhari: Wow! Seth has eyes for photography, awww... same like Mom :)

Notice anything new?  My new logo and colors!  How fresh and exciting… I’m in love with my new look.  I wanted Pottery Barn Kids meets Anthropolgie… and I think this does just that.  My splash page should also reflect the change, and I’ll slowly start updating my website to reflect newer work as well.

And I couldn’t just leave you without a new photo…. look who can pull herself up….

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1.)  In its sweet silence, this snowflake boldly boasts of God’s creativity.

I got a new Macro lens before Christmas and I have really been enjoying practicing with it this past week. All snowed in, and nothing to do, right?  (A macro lens takes extreme close up shots for detail photos.)  The snowflake above was caught on construction paper during the first blizzard this week.  But I quickly tired of the snow and trekked to the grocery store for a flower.

I haven’t done one of these in a long time!  Let’s see……

  1. I am really enjoying reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak From the Barnes & Noble website~   “It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . . Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.” This is all told from Death’s point of view.    It’s fascinating.  Then again, I find anything about WWII fascinating.bookthief
  2. I have been getting back into Digital Scrapbooking.  Now that Audrey’s birthday (gulp….) is just a few sort months away I need to create her first year scrapbook.  Digital Scrapbooking is awesome.  No mess for kids to get into, no making a mistake and having to start over, and you can reuse your supplies over and over again.  Are you interested?  You can go to Shabby Princess’ site and download quite a few freebies.  All you need from there is a simple photo editing software and your own photos.   Then you can print them out on photo paper anywhere.  Here’s a couple of my own recent pages.andrea burns digital scrapbook pages
  3. I am officially over the snow.  We got yet another blizzard all day yesterday.  Another 15-20 inches on top of the 30 we got just a few days ago.  We have officially surpassed any records, and we are living history right now.  The Washington DC area has not seen a Snowy Winter like this since 1899, and we’ve smashed that record by a few inches.  I haven’t been more than a mile from my home in two weeks.  I think it’s fairly safe to say that I and the kids are pretty stir crazy.  Nate has even had to get up on our flat roof and shovel that off, as we were seeing roof cave in’s all over the news.  A photo of Nate measuring the snow below.  That’s right folks… 40 inches.  I apologized to Seth  this morning… for the grumpy teacher he’s bound to have in Kindergarten this Fall… since you know she’ll only have had 2 weeks of summer vacation.  Everything is pretty paralyzed in this region right now.

Come on back tomorrow for the 52 week Project!  I have actually a few photos to share….

Gen: All I can say is "wow"--that's just nuts! Hopefully you'll get a thaw soon! I miss you guys like crazy!

Angyla: Wow! That snow is CRAZY! Being a native Texan, I really can't relate. And I'm so excited to see your digi scrapping...I was wondering if you would be creating any pages for Audrey. They are fantastic...she will have a gorgeous first year book!
